My 5 Favorite Food Spots in Connecticut

Flinder's Lane and Kitchen

A friend and I stumbled across Flinder’s Lane Kitchen this summer, and it was such a great find! This spot is on a restaurant strip and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu focuses on Australian cuisine, so it offers some unique items. Mind you, I have not made my way to Australia yet, so I cannot speak to the authenticity of the restaurant. However, I can tell you that the food was amazing and that you should try the Flame Grilled Octopus and the Burrata and Truffles.

This restaurant also has an extensive cocktail menu. So, if you’re looking to try some beautifully made drinks, order one! I ordered the Stormy Daniels, and it did not disappoint. It includes vodka, passion fruit, lime and prosecco.

Mikee's Place

If you know me, then you know I love a good sandwich!

I grew up on the east coast where corner store delis are a standard way of life. No joke, they are literally located everywhere you go.

Even though I have had my fair share of sandwiches, there is one spot that I always have to visit when I go home to CT. Mikee’s Place in Southbury is that spot. I have been going there for years and I always order the same thing every time. The number 8 Mike’s way with hot sauce. If you are in Southbury, and you do not get a sandwich, then I will judge you.

Also, do not let anyone tell you that this sandwich is like Jersey Mike’s. It’s not true, and it’s a lie!! The bread is completely different and we all know the bread makes a sandwich.

Elm Street Diner

The east coast is filled with tons of diners; they are literally everywhere. However, if you are looking for a diner that has a bit more flare, then I suggest Elm Street Diner. Located in Stamford, CT, this place offers not only your classic diner menu, but a few more wild items too. Swing over to their Instagram page, so you can see exactly what I am talking about.

So yes, even though their entire menu is fantastic, be prepared to be tempted to order a giant milkshake at 10am.

Domenick and Pia’s Pizzeria

This pizza spot is a staple in my hometown of Waterbury, CT. It has been up and running for over 65 years, so they know what they are doing! I remember going for lunch with my grandmothers when I was a little kid. When you walk into this pizzeria, you will feel as though you stepped back into time. But honestly, that just adds to the charm of this place. Try some of their custom toppings, but I am simple with pizza, so cheese only for me!

Also, if you watch Barstool Sports, then you know “One Bite Everyone Knows the Rules.” So let me add that this by saying Dave gave Domenick and Pia an 8.1. Yup, that’s right: an 8.1. And for those of you who do not watch this series, just know that’s a pretty good score.

Please note that they only accept cash.

Milkcraft Ice cream

Milkcraft

After a day of eating tons of food, I suggest ending it with something sweet! What better way to do that than with some ice cream? If you are in the West Hartford area, I recommend going to Milkcraft for some of the best ice cream. Their ice cream is known for being extremely creamy and smooth. Also, a cool bonus is that they use liquid nitrogen to make their ice cream!

Milkcraft has a pretty decent menu filled with a bunch of different flavors. I highly recommend the cookie butter! It comes in a bright blue color with graham cracker crumble on top. I will add that their portion sizes are huge, so if you do not have an enormous appetite, then one scoop is best.

Happy traveling!
