Looking to unplug and relax for a weekend? Well, look no further than the Getaway House! These modern cabin rentals are perfect for an escape away from the city, making it easy to take a break from your everyday life.

I first came across the Getaway House in 2020 after seeing the Washington location posted on Instagram. I remember thinking how serene and relaxing the cabins looked. Honestly, how often do we have the opportunity to just completely disconnect from the real world for a bit? So since then I knew I had to make my way out to the Texas location.

The Getaway House has multiple locations across the United States. Currently, there are 15 active locations, with 2 additional outposts coming soon.

For those in the San Antonio and Austin area looking to take some time away from the city life, I highly suggest a visit to the Getaway Hill Country cabins. Book a week’s stay or even a night or two. Either way, you will not regret the decision.

Getaway House—The Hill Country

The Getaway Hill Country Cabins are within the infamous Hill Country of Texas. These cabin grounds are only an hour outside of both San Antonio and Austin.

If you are new to the Hill Country, there is plenty to explore within this area. Within this article, I have provided some additional spots to visit within the Wimberly/Canyon Lake region.

Booking Process

Booking your escape in these cabins is extremely easy because the website is user friendly! Simply find the cabin grounds nearest to your location and search availability during your desired time frame.

A single cabin can host up to 4 adults with 2 beds. But do not worry if you are a solo traveler, there are single bed options available as well!

Once you have booked your stay, you will receive an email from the team providing you with additional details regarding your reservation. For the Hill Country location, the team shared a list of outdoor activities that were accessible near the Getaway Outpost. I took advantage of this and explored the Pedernales State Park (25 min drive) before my check-in time.

Things to Bring

Here are few items I packed in order to prepare for this trip. Although not required, I found having these items helped to improve my overall experience.

  • Wooden Logs
  • Fire Starters
  • Lighter
  • Roasting Skewers
  • Foil
  • Supplies for S’mores
  • Garbage Bags
  • Shower Shoes
  • Water and Water Bottle
  • Bug Spray and Sunscreen
  • Cooking oil

Again, these are not necessary because the Getaway provides some of these items already; however, I prefer to have extra resources handy.

Check-in and Check-out Process

Check-in is at 3pm and the day of you will receive a text message from the Getaway team with your cabin name and key code. This is your standard electric keypad, so it is very easy to use!

Also, be sure to review the map of the grounds prior to visiting. This will be provided via text message the day of your check-in. The Hill Country location has 42 cabins on their grounds, so knowing the layout of the outpost prior to arrival made it easier to locate my cabin.

Check-out is just as seamless as check-in. Before leaving the grounds, just leave everything as you found. Clean up your cabin area and remove any garbage from outside. There is a garbage can inside the cabin, so place your trash in there if needed.

Regarding check out itself, that is at 11am. Once you are ready to part ways with your cabin, simply text your getaway team member to confirm your check out!

Exploring the Cabin Grounds

Once you locate your cabin, pull into the parking area in front of your cabin and unload all of your things.

Within each camp ground comes with a set of Adirondack chairs, a park bench and a fire pit. The seating area outside made it super easy to unload all the coolers and start prepping for dinner!

Another bonus is the Getaway provides a trunk filled with additional wood logs and fire starters! If you forget to bring your own or even run out, feel free to take from the trunk. At the completion of your visit, the getaway house will charge the provisions to the card on file.

The Hill Country Getaway House Outpost has a nature trail on the grounds as well, so take some time to walk around after you are settled.

Inside the Cabin—Kitchen

As you enter the cabin, you will immediately see the kitchen area, which is fully stocked with your standard kitchen appliances and utensils. If you would prefer to bring your own, then feel free to bring them. I opted to use the supplies that were provided by the cabin.

I have compiled a list of the items that were included in the kitchen.

  • Pot
  • Frying Pan
  • Mugs
  • Kettle
  • Knives/Forks/Spoons
  • Corkscrew/Bottle opener
  • Can opener
  • Scissors
  • Tongs
  • Plates/Bowls

For my trip I was determined to unplug as much as possible, so I chose to cook all of my meals with the fire pit  Lol, I will say this was unfamiliar territory for me, so I kept my meals simple. Hot dogs and hamburgers were my go-to.

Also, there is a table inside the cabin itself, so if you end up visiting during bad weather, the cabin still has a seating area indoors to accommodate your party.

Inside the Cabin—Bathroom

Yes, there is a full bathroom in the cabin! One thing I was originally worried about was the bathroom situation, so I was excited to find out there was a bathroom.

Within the shower, you will find body wash, shampoo and conditioner, so no need to fret if you forget yours.

I will say, though, I wish there was a shelf above the towel racks. This would have made it easier to access my toiletries as I showered. Nonetheless, you can still use the window ledge to place your items.

Inside the Cabin—Beds

When I tell you, I knocked out in this bed; I knocked out! Seriously, the beds and the pillows are so comfortable. As soon as I laid my head down to rest, I fell asleep.

The beds are in front of the infamous large window, so before heading to bed, be sure to take some time to read a book and enjoy the view. Or don’t forget to snap a few pictures as well.

Lastly, there are shades that pull down for all of the windows, in case you are wondering…
